Indeed, my personal impression is that at this time, under Apple's current regime, they have more or less abandoned the pro market segment. That's just a very persistent myth, maintained by clever marketing. It's a paradox, but cheap office monitors often hold higher overall quality standards than considerably more expensive wide gamut "pro" units.Īs for Windows vs Mac, there's no difference and never was. Applications that don't do color management will never display correctly on such a unit.īut purchasing a wide gamut monitor is a minefield. That includes calibrating and profiling the unit with a colorimeter.

Wide gamut displays absolutely and unconditionally require full end-to-end color management. But you do need to understand the implications! If that's what the monitor reproduces, then that's what you get. Getting hung up on Adobe RGB Color issues and am unsure how important that is or if my Surface will even support the gamut. One emits light the other reflects light, With soft proofing what is displayed and what is printed should look nearly the same, Display and Printers have different color capabilities. Lighting condition change and Printed Image and displayed Image never look the same. I just calibrate my displays using color calibrating test web pages. IMO many place too much emphasis on having a perfectly calibrated display, But then I'm a bit colorblind and color balance more by look at the hex color values in neutral areas of images. At home I will use my Surface Pro 3 as a third display on my workstation. IMO you would be better served with a Desktop or Workstation then a mobile device like your Surface Pro 3.

Windows 7 and Windows 10 are also good OS. Apple also abandoned their own OS and switch to a Unix like OS. When Adobe acquired the software they made it also run on windows so they could market Photoshop to many more computer users. There is less software available for Mac's. Installing, operation and uninstalling done the Apple way. Apple is more controlling when it comes to allowing software to run on Mac innovative design changes may be hindered software must conform to Apples standards. If you are comfortable with Windows there are not any significant differences as to how Photoshop works on a MAC and PC machines. I do not think Apples choice of system defaults are any better then Microsoft's choices.
The are Mac Problems as well as Windows problems with OS versions and Photoshop versions.
